The Lambskin Apron

by

David Judkins Gall

From the book- Chips From A Rough Ashler

Remember many angels know of the square and compass too,

And love that pure white lamb-skin they left behind for you;

So walk most circumspectly, things are oft not what they seem

Then when temptations meet you, just keep your apron clean.

When I view my lamb-skin apron, I’m ashamed of my false pride,

For it tries to over come the love that would in heart abide;

When that badge was handed o’er to me ’Twas spotless, aye snow white,

And a voice seems now to whisper, Is your apron clean tonight?

To hold your apron ever pure, Circumscribe all your desires,

Keep your passions in due bounds, no matter what transpires;

The honor mine conferred on me, doth heavy on me lean,

And I pray the Great Almighty, To help me keep it clean.

Some day I know you’ll place it in my grave, to lie with me,

And when you do my brethren, I pray ’twill spotless be;

For you know I hope to wear it, In that land of peace and love,

When I face The Greatest Master, In that Celestial Lodge above.
